Animal Farm:Review

16/2/2018

So the theme for my Graphics project is film, and I have chosen to do animation as a genre. I thought about doing film reviews for a while now, and I went to see this on Sunday, so I will give it a quick review.

Just a heads, while I am using screencaps from the internet, I did go to BFI Southbank to watch this as part of their animation festiable.

This is my review of Animal Farm.

Poster of the film
The has a very basic premise, but the meaning behind the story is what really matters in this case.
The film is an adatation of George Orwell's book of the same name, which was a story about the Russian Reveolvultion. Now, I'm no historian, but looking at some of what these charaters repesent, it becomes more intreating. Old Major, calls a meeting with all the animals, and saying that then need to overthrow their tyrent farmer, Mr Jones. And what really peaks my interest is that Old Major repesents Karl Marx, the founder of Marxism. Marxism started in Russia. Think about that.

Anyways, Old Major gives his last breath which allows him to them overthrow their farmer Mr.Jones.

The Animal resive the rules of Animal Farm
A pig named Snowball becomes the new leader of Animal Farm, and this allows them to set the new rules of Animal Farm. Over time, Snowball allows creates and equal society. However, Napoleon, a pig who is hungry pig for power, assassinates Snowball and becomes the new leader and becomes a dictator, who in the end is just as bad as the humans. The movie ends the same way it starts, as Napoleon is overthrown along with the pigs. In the book, however, the pigs turn into the humans in the eyes of the animals.

The story is basic, but again, if you understand the meanings behind the characters, it becomes more interesting. This is meant to be the Russian revolution retold. The movie it's self is animated very well for 1954. And it kinda reminds me a movie I am going to watch for this topic; Chicken Run. Makes me think of it after the ending if Ginger became a dictator.

Overall, I liked the film, but it was a bit long for the story it was trying to tell. I could use this to focus on British animation, and look at smaller scale by smaller scale studios.

Anyway, that is it for now! If your a regular reader, I'm sorry. This is very,Very different from what I do, but this more for a project.

Thanks for reading, have a great day/night, and take care.
